JohnChow.Com is Boring Compared to ProBlogger.net

Time for some constructive criticism!
John Chow’s blog seems boring in comparison to Problogger. I know these are two of the top blogger’s out there but when I visit John Chow dot com I usually don’t find very much useful information. The site just seems like a giant advertisement. When I get the emails each day from both of these blogs I tend to just skip past John Chow and go straight into reading Problogger. Too often have I read the emails from John Chow and end up reading about some kind of mediocre product or some restruant far away from me.
Now let me say that I mean no offense to John Chow himself. The fact that he has over 37,000 RSS subscribers means he must be doing something right. I have read a lot of positive stuff about him on the web as well. So I am sure he is a great guy. I am simply describing my experience as a reader of his blog. I am sure other people feel the same because I have read some articles and comments from other subscribers describing a similar experience.
Problogger on the other hand consistantly provides useful information that I have benefited from on many occasions. I always look forward to reading the posts. The blog itself is less ad intensive and has great information everywhere. It seems like Pro Blogger is more focused on helping it’s readers than selling to them. I like this focus and will strive to replicate it on this blog as much a I can.
My view on John Chow dot com is not totally negative. There have been some times the blog has helped me. For example, the e-book that is offered when you subscribe has great information in it. Also the blog itself has given me some great ideas on advertising and affiilate marketing.
To conclude, John Chow dot com may not provide as consistently useful information as Problogger dot net but it does provide useful information. There is no doubt a large amount of income produced by all the advertisment and affiliate programs which gives this blog large value. This is probably the reason why the content is the way it is.
John Chow is a brand name that is well known throughout the blogosphere which is why so many bloggers take their cue from this blog. Personally I would like to see more useful content on this site but that is just my opinion.

I definately agree. Problogger is way ahead of johnchow as far as quality content goes. I still don’t understand why everybody likes johnchow, I guess he must have had some Amazing posts at the beginning, but… I’m not seeing them where lol. Thanks for sharing!

Some helpful ones come along once in awhile but most of the time the posts seem affiliate related or sponsored.
Before the theme change there was that $500 review me ad. I guess if people are willing to pay you $500 for a review then it is hard to resist.

Personally, if you’re trying to learn a thing or two about making money online, you probably shouldn’t go to either. It’s the mid-sized blogs that will actually help you make money not the A-listers…
But if I had to pick, I’d go with Darren at Problogger…

Thanks for the advice Jay. I agree but I have to say that learned a lot from Problogger. I like to search all around at many blogs because you can learn great tips in the least likely of places sometimes.
