5.4 Earthquake in Chino Hills, California!

Earthquake in PakistanYesterday at about 11:45am in the morning an earthquake hit the Chino Hills area of California.  I was at work and was the second person out of the building!  People still make fun of me for running but I have good reason.  Our building has a parking lot on top of it and I am just below on the second floor.  The thought of the ceiling and the cars falling on my head just makes too much sense to ignore.

I may have caused a slight panic by yelling, "I am not dying in this building!"  While I was running down the hall but hey, I was frightened!  I wasn’t the only person running scared.  I have been in a lot of earthquakes in my life but I always still get scared.  Why?  There is a distinct possibility you could DIE!  Yes, people seem to think that there is no threat.  I am sorry but I am a realistic person.  If I could put myself in a position to have a better chance of not dying by running some place else, then I am gone!

Once an earthquake is over there are a few steps you should take to ensure safety.  You first need to see if all the people you are with are accounted for and not hurt.  If you are in a building you need to check your building for structural damage and gas leaks.  Make sure you check for gas leaks, it is very important.

I was at work when this happened so the building was inspected and they found a gas leak.  They let everyone go home early.  Today everything seemed ok, so we are back to work.  It was nice having a half day off as I used the time to do some much needed vehicle maintenance.

Another thing that can help you if you live in an area that has earthquakes is an Earthquake Survival Kit.  If the earthquake is large enough it could knock out all of your utilities for days even weeks.  No water, power, etc.  Things can get scary without water and power for a few days.  It is nice to have a backup plan in an emergency like this.

Wow that must have been SCARY! I can’t imagine. It’s weird because last week my hubby and I were talking about getting a place in the San Diego area and we decided against it because of earthquakes, then a couple days later this happens. Wish you the best
